Takashi Miike is a prolific Japanese director having produced over 60 films in his career so far. He was born in a small town called Yao on the outskirts of Osaka and attended the film school in Yokohama when he turned 18.
After ten years working in the world of television Miike started to make films. Miike has a reputation for violent and sexual films, his breakthrough in the west came with the disturbing 1999 release Audition.
Although his most celebrated work is violent, Miike makes all manner of films and refuses to be typecast (by chris). Inventive, deeply skilled and eclectic - you never know what you're going to get with Takashi Miike.
